NCL Not Going to the Winter Olympics – the Inside Scoop
You might have heard about the last-minute cancellation of NCL’s Norwegian Star in Vancouver – just four days before the beginning of the charter period for the Winter Olympics.
After meeting with executives from NCL, we want to assure our readers that NCL was not at fault and the cruise line will not take a financial hit. Landry & Kling’s CEO, Joyce Landry, told Seatrade Insider:
“We’ve been successfully operating dockside charters for more than 20 years without any default and we’re hoping this doesn’t put a blemish on the otherwise very positive concept of floating hotels.”

By the way, we’re sure the Government of Trinidad and Tobago would agree that a dockside charter is a vital solution when faced with a scarcity of hotel rooms. Two recent global events would not have been so successful without the chartered ships that provided supplemental housing and meeting facilities on the tiny island of Trinidad.
