Royal Caribbean Begins Relief Efforts in Haiti

As the news pours in, our hearts go out to those affected by  the devastating earthquake in Haiti. We look for ways to help, logging on to charity websites and texting donations to the Red Cross. Searching for any glimmer of hope, we were glad to read an encouraging article in today’s Miami Herald about Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd’s earthquake relief efforts.

The cruise company is ready to continue sailing to their private beach resort in Labadee on the north coast of Haiti (far from the earthquake damage), and will carry humanitarian supplies on the regular voyages. Three Royal Caribbean ships (Independence of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas) as well as Celebrity Solstice are scheduled to visit Labadee in the next two weeks.

Adam Goldstein, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, has been posting updates in his blog, nationofwhynot.com:

…we have received and loaded the first relief supplies on Independence of the Seas, which will be taken to Labadee and distributed through Food for the Poor. We are also in the process of coordinating additional relief supplies that will be loaded on Navigator of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas, and will be taken to Labadee on Monday and Tuesday of next week… This effort is going to be a marathon, so we will be partnering with Food For The Poor on the back-end distribution in Haiti.”
